We recieved word today that the infection showed up in the original culture from a periphery blood draw. That means that the infection isn't localized around the umbilical cord/belly button, but has spread throughout all of the blood. A fresh round of blood cultures started today, and we should have those results in the morning friday, to show if the antibiotics are effective in killing the infection. We also learned today that our extended stay (7-14 days) will start on the day that we get a clear culture. Hopefully that is today.
Otherwise, Mitchell has been doing very well. He is doing well with feedings and even started to nurse today.

We believe we can take God at His Word. We belive that at the cost of His own son, God has purchased for us everything that is good, and ultimately, only good things, for our sake, and His glory. We believe He ordains all things, sustains all things, is sovereign over all things, no exceptions. And we rejoice in His sovereign grace that makes all things as loss compared to knowing Him. His love is better than life.
Our Baby at 18 weeks
We discovered during our 18 week ultrasound, that our baby, due May 6th, 2007, has a congenital heart defect known as dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries (d-TGA). We set this blog up to inform our friends and family of new developments as they come.

I am in the North Island and I can keep up with the news. Bjanka is very unwell, so it is good to be of some help. This blood infection sounds very familiar. When Nathan had Meningitis at just over a day old, he then also got septicemia and was not allowed home until all was clear and came home after a month. When you look back, it is just a small time of their life and you will have some wonderful times to come. Hang in there. It doesn't help being so far from home. Luv you guys and the Kiwi's are praying for you.
We are sorry about this new event just when things we going along so well. Mitchell does seem to be progressing nicely otherwise. It's good to have those positive things happen. Let us know if we can bring you anything or take you out.

Ehrlich's- We are praying every hour for you three. We cannot wait to meet Mitchell. Sam is getting ready to have a buddy just his age! :) Praise the Lord that he is nursing and I'm praying that is an awesome bonding experience for you, Bethany and Mitchell.

Dear Jon and Bethany,
Our hearts were saddened to hear news of Mitchell's infection and the prospect of staying longer in the hospital. It was fun to imagine you coming home (listening to your "coming home" mix tape,) settling in your cute apartment and receiving meals. We will pray for a clear blood culture.
We are happy to hear that he is making progress with eating (and likes the grape tylenol).
